Getting Started

What is Pic Pilot Meta?

Pic Pilot Meta is an AI-powered image management suite that transforms how WordPress sites handle images, accessibility, and SEO. Using advanced AI models from OpenAI (GPT-4o) and Google (Gemini Pro Vision), it automatically generates:

  • Filenames — Clean, descriptive, URL-friendly filenames

  2. Navigate to Pic Pilot Meta → Settings
  3. Choose your AI provider (OpenAI or Google Gemini)

Known Issues & Limitations

We believe in transparency. Here are the current limitations and known issues you should be aware of.

Media Modal Integration

Some media libraries from page builders (Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, etc.) may not properly display the PicPilot popup tools inside their custom media modals.

Workaround: This feature is now optional. Go to Pic Pilot Meta → Settings and disable "Enable Media Modal Tools". Use the main Media Library grid view for AI generation instead.

Filename Renaming — Incomplete Replacement

When an image file has been renamed through PicPilot, the plugin cannot guarantee 100% replacement across all locations. This limitation affects:

  • Images hardcoded in theme template files
  • Images referenced in custom CSS
  • Images in serialized data (some page builders store data this way)
  • External references to the image URL
Recommendation: Use filename generation primarily for new uploads. For existing images with many references, consider creating a duplicate with the new filename instead of renaming.

SVG Files — No Alt Text or Title Support

The AI cannot add alt text and title attributes to SVG files. SVGs are XML-based vector files, not raster images, and AI vision models may not properly interpret SVG content.

Workaround: Manually add alt text to SVG images through the WordPress Media Library edit screen.

Large Image Files

Images over 10MB may cause memory exhaustion during base64 encoding, API timeout during upload to the AI provider, or significantly slower processing times.

Recommendation: Optimize large images before uploading to WordPress. Enable "Optimization Compatibility Mode" in settings and keep images under 10MB for best results.

Virtual Images

Some images detected by the accessibility scanner may be "virtual" — they exist as URLs in your content but don't have a corresponding WordPress Media Library attachment.

Impact: Virtual images cannot be fixed through the one-click Fix Now feature. You must manually address these by either adding them to the Media Library or editing the source directly.

AI Refusal for Faces / People

AI providers (OpenAI and Google) may refuse to generate detailed metadata for images containing identifiable faces or people due to their privacy policies.

What happens: The plugin detects the AI refusal and automatically falls back to keyword-based or default metadata patterns. This is an AI provider limitation, not a plugin limitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Questions

Some page builders use custom media modal implementations. Go to Settings and disable "Enable Media Modal Tools", then use the main WordPress Media Library grid view for AI generation.

WordPress doesn't track all image references. The plugin updates the database and post content, but cannot modify theme files, custom CSS, or serialized data. Use filename generation on new uploads for best results.

Yes! Enable "Optimization Compatibility Mode" in settings for better compatibility with ShortPixel, Smush, and Imagify.

Currently Pic Pilot Meta only supports exporting scan results to CSV. There is no backup/restore or import functionality.

For best results, keep images under 10MB. Larger files may cause timeout or memory issues during processing.
