Quick Edit on the Live Page
Change text, images, links and menu labels by clicking them on the page itself. Nothing to open, no layout to break.
Turning it on
View a design page while logged in and click Quick edit in the admin bar. It shows only to people who can edit that page.
Visitors never see any of it. The editing layer is added only for you, only while it is on, and a page in that state is never stored in a cache.
What you can change
- Text. Click it and type. This includes text written straight into a section's layout, such as a hand-built menu or footer, not only text kept in content fields.
- Images. Click one to open the Media Library. If the image you pick has alt text, the alt text on the page is updated too.
- Link addresses. Click a link's text, then Edit link.
- WordPress menu labels. Rename a menu item where it appears. You need permission to manage menus for this one.
Layout, styling and the order of sections are not editable here. For those, use the section editor or ask the AI.
What you can't change here, and why
Some things on a page are filled in from somewhere else, so changing them on the page would either do nothing or overwrite live data with today's value. These are locked, and a locked item explains itself when you click it:
- business info such as your phone number and address (it lives in Business Info and is the same everywhere)
- post loops and post data such as titles and dates
- custom fields from ACF
- WooCommerce products, prices and the cart
- icons and responsive images
- shortcode output, such as a form or a review widget
- animated sections whose script rewrites their own content
- the year in the footer, which updates itself
Each lock tells you where to make the change instead: the section editor (it opens on that section), or Business Info, Posts, Products or Menus. You can also click Edit with MCP to hand it to the AI.
Edits that reach other pages
The global header and footer, shared sections and WordPress menus appear on more than one page. They are marked with a warning and the number of pages they reach (for example “⚠ Header · 12 pages”), and the first time you edit one you are asked to confirm that the change goes to all of them.
Text that has been overridden on this page only is edited without the warning, because the change stays on this page.
Finding what is editable
The page stays clean while Quick edit is on. Point at a section to see its outline, its name and the pieces inside it you can change.
To see everything at once, hold Alt, or tick Show all outlines in the Quick edit panel. On a phone, tap a section or use the tick box.
Saving and history
Changes collect in the panel until you click Save. Right after a save you can click Undo to take it back.
The History tab lists every save, newest first, with each change shown as before and after. Go back here returns the page to how it looked right after that save. Going back is itself saved as a new change, so it can be undone too.
If someone else changed the same section while you were editing, nothing is saved. You are asked whether to load their version or keep yours.
